Extractions | Root Canal Therapy in Orangeville

Tooth Extractions

An extraction is the removal of teeth that may be impacted, infected or damaged beyond repair. Tooth extraction is typically the last resort for a treatment plan, since we feel that saving a tooth is the best option whenever possible.

Our dentists at Orangeville Dental Centre perform extractions only when a less invasive option would be ineffective, or if keeping the tooth will compromise your oral health.

Root Canal

A root canal is necessary when your tooth has developed, or is very likely to develop, an infection in the pulp. The tooth pulp is the soft tissue inside your tooth. If an infection develops in your tooth, extreme complications such as loss of the tooth or bone loss may occur. Additionally, an infection can even impact your overall health if not treated. A root canal will remove this infection and prevent future infections from developing inside your tooth.

How can a root canal help my impaired tooth?

Root canals clean the inside of the impaired tooth. During the procedure, a gap is drilled into the tooth’s crown and pulp chamber, the diseased pulp is reshaped or removed, and the tooth is permanently sealed with a porcelain tooth-colored inlay/onlay or crown. Our Orangeville dentist will recommend which options are needed to best protect your tooth after the root canal procedure.

What can I expect after my root canal procedure?

You can expect soreness for a few days following your root canal procedure. Try to avoid chewing on the side of your mouth where the procedure was performed. Our Orangeville dentist might recommend taking antibiotics to treat any remaining infection in your tooth.

What are the symptoms of a root canal?

  • Excessive toothache pain
  • Sensitivity to hot or cold food/drinks
  • Tenderness around the gum line
